The landscape of SLAC LCLS (Stanford Linear Accelerator Center - Linac Coherent Light Source) is one that preserves the natural beauty of the native foothills while improving campus connections and cohesion. A variety of native ornamental grasses can highlight new landscape components while fitting nicely into the overall native landscape aesthetic. Adjacent to paths and gathering areas, native shades trees like Coast Live Oaks, Madrones and Cypress can offer natural shade while flowering ornamental trees like Crapemyrtles, Orchid and Redbuds can emphasize gardens and areas of particular interests such as the formal pedestrian drop-off and the sloping garden. Gathering spaces are vital to the social success of a landscape. Using natural materials, seating along paths will invite users to engage with the landscape and nurture a campus environment.
