Patio Residence, California
For this compact residential garden the limited space posed unique challenges. The site being approximately 500 square feet, the goal was to create a functional and useful patio while creating the illusion that it is a much larger space.
Angled curb walls and grade change helped to create a sense of forced-perspective and thus allowing the feeling of openness and continuity. Plantings of Horsetail provided a vertical buffer between the patio and fence while Evergold Sedge provided color and interest to buffer between the patio and the house in a cool and shady condition.
