"The National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation is a cultural facility that exhibits and displays innovations and paradigms in science and technology. An urban plaza forms the frontal piece to the museum where sculptural landforms set partially in water express the collision and fusion of molecules while recalling the formal expressions of traditional Japanese Zen gardens. The exhibition area that extends from the opposite side of the museum is framed by undulating landforms expressive of the light, sound, and electronic waves studied in technological and scientific research. This garden creates space for receptions and respite amidst changing exhibitions." - Hargreaves Jones
While working on this project, I (uncharacteristically of Hargreaves Associates) developed a paper-model to help express the preciseness of the landforms and hardscape proposed. As a result, this was yet another creative project where the 3D model lead and inform the following drawing documentation that helped realize the project. I was finally able to visit the site in 2014 (10+ years after completion), only to find the landforms striped, to be replanted while the back stone garden was being used as a tour bus parking lot.
