Scotiabank North Roof Terrace, Toronto, Ontario
Working in close collaboration with our client, design architect, and engineers, multiple key elements were made possible to transform this executive roof terrace.
|
This 716 square meter roof terrace for a Fortune 500 company executive floor in downtown Toronto included a detailed analysis of programming, space allocation, and materials chosen carefully for warmth, engagement, and delight in an otherwise challenging and austere location. |
The use of wood for the unique bench design, enabling a subtle lighting design, was celebrated with a “feature wall” that was the terminus of a welcoming interior lobby. An outdoor kitchen located at the opposite end of the terrace includes a fully working kitchen, operable trellis for partial sun or weather protection while located adjacent to a large dining table for large gatherings. An 16m wide by 2.5m tall green wall also forms the terrace wall that is located between the outdoor kitchen and the feature wall. Planted with a variety of sedums and grasses, the green wall was installed with a fully automated irrigation system. The remaining terrace is bordered with metal planters of perennials and ornamental grasses, while two witch hazel trees bring winter colour interest to a terrace that was further enhanced by a eclectic collection of outdoor furnishings.
