Auto Complex is located in the City of Vaughan, just north-west of the Yonge Street and Steeles Avenue West intersection that shares a border with the City of Toronto and the City of Markham. The Yonge-Steeles area can be characterized by its large low-rise retail and surface parking, which are typical of auto-oriented, suburban developments. Much of the area that fronts along Yonge Street and Steeles Avenue West, two major arterial roads that provide an important opportunity to support intensification and redevelopment. |
From a holistic point of view, the landscape was designed to emulate the look and feel of the architecture while adding to the unique sense of place of Auto Complex. The entire site will be connected through the open space network, where people will be able to meander and flow through intuitively. Throughout the development, roof top amenities are proposed as private open spaces for the residents. One of the most valuable features of utilizing green roof infrastructure is that it generates a wide range of social, wellness and mental health, and environmental benefits. The Auto Complex redevelopment will deliver an exciting and thoughtful public realm, supporting healthy living through a mix of uses that encourage residents to be physically active and socially engaged. To achieve a sustainable community vision, the redevelopment shall be compact and provide a wide range of mobility options.
