121 Garden, Sonoma, California |
| Back |
This project studies the notion of how a garden composed of immediately recognizable elements but reinterpreted and represented in a new and different context and arrangement can question our memory of a place. What is memorable? What is unique? 121 Garden is a memory of a place that's not literally accurate, but perhaps accurate to what's memorable. Is the garden an imagined ideal of a landscape we all know well, or is it a reconstruction of what we think we can remember? Like impressionist painters focusing and highlighting the uniqueness of a place or subject of one's painting, we're doing the same in the context of a garden as our canvas representing the wine country hillside of route 121 in Sonoma, California as our subject.
