The multi-disciplined team provided architecture, landscape design and sustainability advice for a nine-hectare plot on the 30km2 site to the east of Tianjin. Sustainability is a high priority for the city and each development must achieve at least a Silver rating under the Green Building Evaluation Standard (GBES), with a focus on high performance buildings and reducing water use due to drought conditions in the area. In order to decentralize the typical quadrant layout of the development, a landscape weaving concept was proposed to organize the site and provide an unique setting for this development within the overall ECO-City. The weaving landscape pattern served multiple functions such as emergency vehicle access, pedestrian circulation, site amenities such as gardens, playgrounds and rain gardens.
