Keppel Island Concept, Singapore |
| Back |
Located west of Sentosa Island and downtown in Singapore, Keppel Island is a small private island connected to the mainland by a suspension bridge and an existing marina. Set within a lively collection of high-end residential developments, Keppel Island was set to see the expansion of this community with distinct architecture from Safdie Architects. In 2012, PWP was engaged to develop a conceptual design for the public and private portions of the island. Playing on the unique circular buildings, major gardens were developed in the circular form and connected by a meandering path system that led one through the public waterfront portion of the island while secondary paths led into the private gardens of the buildings. Working with local ecology, the concept included elements such as a mangrove garden, a coconut grove, an aquatic garden, rain trees and other exotic tropical plantings to emphasize the local beauty of the region.
