Founders' Memorial International Competition, Singapore |

For the international public competition, the National Heritage Board of Singapore planned a memorial site that will host educational interpretive functions, museum, library, meeting spaces, and a large gathering space for celebration of national pride for the original founders of Singapore. The proposal explores the idea of duality with the historical struggle of Singapore's birth and today's thriving nation. While looking inward and respectful of its history, Singapore looks hopefully outward to the skyline of its great city. The building structure is composed of two rings, seemingly spinning on different axis while existing harmoniously with each other. A grand central round meeting space is accessed only by descending belong the park level and under both ring buildings. This quiet oasis, like the eye of the storm, is the beginning of the visitor's journey through the building. While the floors are level and slightly sloping to rise to higher levels of the building, all of it glazed walls are always tilted on angle. Finally, a grand look out hall existing on the upper level of outer ring building facing the Singapore skyline, revealing the symbol and most important aspect of this memorial, the city and its people.
